The VNC Server has not been started A firewall stopping access on port 5900. In Mac:System Preferences - Network, the IP address for the Mac can also be located. The IP address shown in the Mac OS X Remote Management may be a name only known to the DNS for the Mac, not the iphone. Note that with this command the VNC server is protected by a password.
Take note of the VNC server (or desktop) number that was started (e.g. Open a terminal window Start VNC server with command: x11vnc -display :0 -usepw -shared -forever -noxdamage. Start the VNC server directly on the spectrometer computer before leaving the lab. Next, you need to port forward port 5900 to the first computer, port 5901 to the second computer, etc. So, the second computer would be logical screen 1, the third screen 2, etc. First, you need to use the virtual screen numbering capability for all but the first computer with VNC so that there aren't port collisions.
